KUCHING, Nov 19: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) newcomer Rodiyah Sapiee cruised to victory and secured P200 Batang Sadong in a straight fight against Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Lahaji Lahiya in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The lady engineer, who took over from incumbent Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, won Batang Sadong with a stunning majority of 14,893 votes.

She scooped 18,668 votes to beat Lahaji who garnered 3,775 votes.
The Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency has 32,640 registered voters.

In GE14, Nancy defended the seat with a 12,328 majority in a three-cornered fight. She polled 14,208 votes to beat PH’s Othman Mustapha who obtained 1,800 votes while PAS’ Asan Singkro only got a mere 978 votes.

Nancy has served Batang Sadong for three terms since 2008 before she moved to Santubong in this parliamentary election. With that, Rodiyah has some big shoes to fill, and will probably need to hit the ground running to catch up to her predecessor. ā€” DayakDaily
