KUCHING, Nov 9: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is the preferred option for parents and students because Sarawak is the only State government in Malaysia that recognises the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), says Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) deputy information chief Andy Lawrence.
According to Lawrence, Pakatan Harapan (PH) failed to meet its manifesto commitments in education during its 22-month federal administration.
“PH also promised to return education decision-making power to Sarawak, but this never occurred.
“Because PH failed to keep their promise to waive the Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN), the Sarawak government launched initiatives through its education foundation, Yayasan Sarawak, to help ease the burden of the PTPTN loan on Sarawakian students,” he said in a statement.
He claimed that Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) ministers under PH failed because they did not have freedom.
“They were controlled by their political masters in Malaya, as opposed to GPS, which is free of any political parties in Peninsular Malaysia.
“This was demonstrated when the State government, acting through GPS, filed a lawsuit against Petronas (Petroliam Nasional Berhad), and none of the PH Sarawak MPs supported it.
“This move has generated billions of dollars in income for Sarawak and will continue to do so for years to come,” he added.
“That is why it is important for Sarawakians, particularly parents and students, to understand that with 31 GPS MPs joining Sabah MPs to form the next federal government, and with other peninsular political parties none of which will be dominant, GPS will become a force to be reckoned with.” — DayakDaily
