KUCHING, Nov 10: The government has agreed to grant non-recorded leave (CTR) in conjunction with the Deepavali festival on Nov 12 to all Hindu federal civil servants serving in Sarawak with effect from yesterday (Nov 9).

In a TVS news report today, the CTR was stated in a circular dated Nov 9 and signed by Public Services Department (PSD) director-general Datuk Zulkapli Mohamed through the official Facebook page of the Public Services Department (JPA).

According to the circular, if Deepavali falls on a working day, officers can apply for CTR on that day, and if Deepavali falls on a Sunday, officers can apply for CTR on the following working day.

“In that regard, taking into account that Deepavali (this year) falls on Sunday (Nov 12), officers who follow the Hindu religion can apply for CTR on Monday (Nov 13) to celebrate Deepavali.

The government from 2018 has allocated CTR in conjunction with the Deepavali festival for one day, which is the next day (the second day), to Hindu federal officers in addition to the public holiday on Deepavali day.

The CTR does not apply to Sarawak since Deepavali is not a public holiday in the State.

The Sarawak government has agreed to give CTR in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration to Sarawak civil service officers who are Hindus through Sarawak State Employment Circular Number 26 Year 2023, dated Nov 9, 2023.

The CTR in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration for the federal officers who are Hindus serving in Sarawak, will be effective from the date the letter is issued and to all heads of statutory bodies of the Sarawak Federation.

Previously, the government agreed that the CTR, in conjunction with the Deepavali festival on Nov 13 (Monday), would be brought to Nov 14 (Tuesday) for federal officers who follow the Hindu religion in states whose weekly holiday is Sunday. — DayakDaily
