KUCHING, Feb 11: The contest for Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) Supreme Council position has attracted candidates who seek to strengthen democracy within the party and amplify the voices of grassroots members.
One of the candidates, Sulhie Salleh pointed out the need to reinforce the PBB’s democratic process while ensuring that the voices at the grassroots are heard at the highest level.
“First is to strengthen the democratic process in PBB. Second, it is to bring forward the voices of the grassroots to the highest level.
“I feel that we need continuity in PBB and view this contest as a family matter,” said Sulhie.
He shared that he is inclined towards empowering and strengthening PBB from the grassroots level so that the party becomes more well-known and remains relevant over time in championing the people and Sarawak.
Similarly, Comar Amid expressed his intention to be a bridge between the grassroots and the party leadership, highlighting the importance of ensuring their voices are heard.
“I try my best running as a candidate and give them (grassroots members) a voice because their concerns do not always reach the top.
“If I’m meant to win, then I will do what needs to be done as a Supreme Council member. If not, then it will be up to the chosen individual to take on the responsibility,” he said.
Comar emphasised that he is not only advocating for his own branch but for all PBB branches across the State.
Meanwhile, Dato Mohamad Yusnar Matalie said his decision to contest is rooted in his belief in PBB’s democratic process.
“I threw my hat in as it is a democratic process for PBB that I want to be a part of,” he said.
The race for PBB’s Supreme Council positions is set to be a significant moment in the party’s leadership selection as it moves forward in the coming years. –DayakDaily
