KUCHING, Aug 10: Gerak Belaga Sejahtera (GBS) wants to shift the district from waiting for development to actively creating opportunities for its communities.

In a recent statement, the initiative seeks to bring Belaga’s communities together under an inclusive development platform focused on issues that affect the district as a whole, while complementing the work of existing ethnic associations.

Rather than replacing or taking over the role of these associations, GBS said it would act as a coordinator and catalyst for district-level development, particularly in areas that could benefit the wider community.

To achieve this, the initiative plans to work with the local elected representative, government agencies, community leaders, ethnic associations, the private sector and strategic partners to identify local needs and develop appropriate solutions.

This collaborative approach will centre on six areas, namely education, economic development, social welfare, culture and heritage, environmental sustainability, as well as digital development and infrastructure.

More broadly, GBS wants Belaga to become a more active, self-reliant and competitive community that is capable of creating opportunities for its people instead of simply waiting for development to come to the district.

The initiative also aims to contribute to a more developed, united, prosperous and sustainable Belaga, in line with Sarawak’s wider development aspirations. — DayakDaily
