KUCHING, Sept 28: The Gerak Belaga Sejahtera (GBS) has clarified that it is not intended to replace or take over the role of ethnic associations, but instead, it will serve as a coordinator and catalyst for development at the district level, particularly in matters that benefit the people of Belaga as a whole.
In a statement, GBS said the initiative aims to bring the people of Belaga together under an inclusive development platform based on unity and collective action.
It will work closely with local elected representatives, particularly the representative for the Belaga constituency, as well as government agencies, community leaders, ethnic associations, the private sector, and strategic partners to identify needs and find the best solutions for the community.
It added that it will focus on six key areas: education, the economy, social welfare, culture and heritage, the environment, and digital and infrastructure development.
“We want Belaga to move from simply waiting for development to becoming an active, self-reliant and competitive community capable of creating opportunities of its own.
“With the cooperation of all parties, GBS aims to help build a more developed, united, prosperous and sustainable Belaga, in line with Sarawak’s development aspirations,” it said. — DayakDaily
