General manager, resort manager among those injured in bridge collapse incident in Mulu

The victims of the incident were flown out to receive treatment for their injuries via helicopter.

MARUDI, April 27: Four men, including two foreigners, were flown to Miri after being injured in a bridge collapse incident at a Mulu resort yesterday.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba) Sarawak said they received a report on the incident at 3pm.

He said members from the Marudi Fire and Rescue Station went straight to the scene to rescue all the victims.


“Arriving at the location, it was found that four victims were involved in the incident, with three victims being sent to Mulu Airport for further treatment.

“Meanwhile, another victim from Germany who is also the resort manager was evacuated using a stretcher by firefighters because he suffered injuries to his waist and legs.

“The four victims were then given initial treatment by the Mulu Ministry of Health of Malaysia (KKM) before they were flown to Miri using a Samling helicopter,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Another victim, who is the general manager of the resort is said to be from Belgium and the identities of the other two victims have not been ascertained.

During the incident, all four victims were said to be conducting a site inspection.
