KUCHING, Nov 19: Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib (GPS-PBB) successfully defended P213 Mukah against Abdul Jalil Bujang (PH-PKR) in the 15th General Election (GE15).
The incumbent secured 21,733 votes against Abdul Jalil’s 6,047, with a majority of 15,686, which is more than twice the majority of votes she garnered in the 14th General Election.
The Mukah parliamentary constituency has 46,964 registered voters.
When asked for comments on her victory, Hanifah said she would continue to help the people, especially the ones in the rural area.
“Most people don’t realise that when it comes to the people living in the outskirts, they do not know what ministry or agency is responsible for what kind of matters.
“That is why even though some matters are not under my care, I will always consider what their needs are and try to speak to the agency and ministry involved so that we can resolve their problems for them,” she said, adding that development also needs to be sped up.
In GE14, the two fought for the seat which had been held by Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah (BN-PBB) for eight terms from 1982 until 2018, where she won with a 7,000-vote majority.
