KUCHING, Dec 17: The fish pond compound beside the teahouse at Kuching Friendship Park will undergo construction for a retaining wall to be built to prevent further erosion.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the gabion wall project will commence within this month and is expected to be completed by the beginning of next year.

“There is some erosion at the fish pond, so we want to do some repair works. It will affect some parts of the walkway where the public commonly exercises, but this project needs to be done.

“Otherwise, the soil will continue to erode into the pond,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk Facebook live session today.

On Wednesday (Dec 14), Wee handed over the gabion wall project to the contractor assigned.

Meanwhile, Wee noted the commencement of another project involving some repair works at the Mayor Song Swee Guan Park’s basketball court at Tabuan Jaya.

He said the uneven floor surface would be repaired as local users have complained of some injuries.

“The project will also include the replacement of the basketball posts and installation of additional lighting,” he added. — DayakDaily
