KUCHING, Dec 17: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng is urging parents today to educate their children about the roles of mayors and local councils.

He said young kids these days do not recognise the term “mayor” nor understand the responsibilities of a local council, therefore communication is important.

“Kids nowadays, they don’t know what a mayor is. They know about class monitors and headmasters, but not mayors.

“So, I think a lot of education and communication is needed here. I hope parents, when they have the time, could bring their children to the council building for a walkabout.

“This way, young children could learn about how a local council operates or why a local council is needed,” said Wee in his ShallWeeTalk Facebook live session today.

Meanwhile, Wee also welcome requests or proposals from schools in terms of event organisation.
