Funeral cluster Emperoh Jambu picks up 14 cases overnight in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Asajaya

KUCHING, March 5: Funeral cluster of Emperoh Jambu in Kuching has climbed to 212 cases today after 14 new infections were confirmed in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan and Asajaya.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, reported that nine Covid-19 cases were detected in Kuching, two each in Samarahan and Asajaya and one in Serian.

As of today, a total of 1,000 individuals have been screened whereby 600 were negative and 188 were still waiting for lab test results.


Emperoh Jambu was one of two funeral clusters that saw an increase in daily cases of Covid-19.

The other one was the notorious Pasai Cluster in Sibu, which curve was falling steadily but picked up six cases in Kapit today to further push the cluster’s total to 2,673.

As the biggest cluster in Sarawak, a total of 42,000 individuals have been screened as of today whereby 39,200 were negative and 127 still awaiting results.

Of the 25 active clusters in Sarawak, four clusters recorded new cases including Sungai Bakong in Meradong which was linked to a workplace and Buloh in Selangau which stemmed from a social gathering in a longhouse.

Workplace Sungai Bakong Cluster in Meradong swelled to 182 after reporting 33 cases overnight.

A total of 1,348 individuals have been screened whereby 766 were negative and 400 were still awaiting results.

The Buloh Cluster, on the other hand, reported one case to bring the total number of cases in that hotspot to 33.

A total of 73 individuals have been screened whereby 40 were negative and no results were pending.

The remaining 21 clusters did not report any new cases today. They are Tangap Sub-Cluster in Subis; Gelong in Kapit; Kampung Sungai Maong, Jalan Green and Indah Riang in Kuching, Jalan Muhibbah in Betong, Jalan Ho Pin and Univista in Samarahan; Kejatau in Sri Aman; Jan Yong in Kapit; Geronggang and Mas Merah in Sibu; Kidurong Dua and Jun Heng in Bintulu; Nanga Lijau in Julau; Seruas in Beluru; Sebangkoi in Sri Aman; Bintang Daily in Meradong; Jalan Pengiran in Matu; Tabong in Bau; as well as Rakut and Jelita in Miri.

Meanwhile, Sarawak reported 250 new cases today with Sibu topping the list of daily infections with 123 cases followed by Meradong (36); Bintulu (21); Kuching and Kapit (17 each); Miri (14); Julau (7); Serian (4); Daro (3); Asajaya, Samarahan and Selangau (2 each); and Dalat and Sri Aman (1 each).

This increased the state tally to 10,674.

Sarawak also recorded 174 recoveries today with 61 patients have been discharged from Sibu Hospital, 37 from Bintulu Hospital, 24 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), 21 from Sarikei Hospital, nine each from Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kapit and Sri Aman, and three in Miri Hospital.

As such, the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak has increased to 8,141 or 76.27 per cent of total positive cases so far. — DayakDaily
