Her mother, Siti Aisyah Ramli, expressed her joy, stating that it was her eldest child’s first participation in a high-level competition.

“Although she did not set a high target, Alhamdulillah she (Aadra) succeeded.

“At first I didn’t expect to win gold, because the name was not mentioned during the announcement of the silver and bronze winners, I was quite surprised when she was announced as the gold winner,” she said when contacted by the news outlet.

Aadra’s teammate, Lincoln Tie Ung Xing, also won the gold medal in Grade Two.

The impressive achievements of the two talented nine-year-old contestants from Sekolah Kebangsaan Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan and St Joseph’s Private Primary School here respectively have not only brought recognition to Sarawak, but have also put Malaysia in the spotlight on the global stage.

TVS reported that Malaysia was represented by 10 participants from Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur who competed in various grade categories.

In addition to two gold medals, Malaysia also won four silver and four bronze medals from a total of 76 participants.

The competition, organised by Sakamoto Educational System Pte Ltd, takes place annually in multiple countries, including Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia, Indonesia, and Malaysia, with Johor hosting this year’s edition. — DayakDaily
