Four-cornered fight in Padungan with PBK’s Thong, SUPP’s Wee, Aspirasi’s Soo and DAP’s Chong

KUCHING, Dec 6: N.9 Padungan will see a four-corner fight in the 12th Sarawak Election.

Unlike previous elections, supporters were not allowed to be at the nomination centre within the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

Raymond Thong from Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) was the first to arrive at 8am with his proposer Chong Chik Kiang and seconder Lim Beng Hua.


Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) candidate Dato Wee Hong Seng arrived at 8.16am, accompanied by his proposer Tay Yu Siang and seconder Dr Shajahan Sayed Ahmad.

At 8.23am, Lina Soo of Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) arrived with her proposer Weenie Chua and seconder Robert Ng.

Meanwhile, Chong Chieng Jen of Democratic Action Party (DAP) arrived at 8.30am with his proposer Jong Yee Hung and seconder Chan Khong Gin.

At 10.15am, Returning Officer Theresa Korina Peter announced that all four candidates successfully submitted their nomination papers.

Wee was the first to hand in his documents at 9am, followed by Thong at 9.03am, Soo at 9.05am, and Chong at 9.09am.

The incumbent for Padungan is Wong King Wei, who won the seat under DAP. In the 11th Sarawak Election, he retained the seat with 9,332 votes against Pau Kiu Sung from SUPP and Teo Kuang Kim from State Reform Party (STAR).

Last year, Wong announced his resignation from the party. ― DayakDaily
