Floodwater cuts road access to two longhouses in Betong

KUCHING, March 12: Road access to Rh Rian Batang and Rh Buloh Antu in Betong were cut off this morning by flood.

According to a report by Sarawak Civil Defence Force (APM) Betong, they received an emergency call at 3.30am about the flood situation at Rian Batang.

Following this, a monitoring squad was despatched to the distressed area where observation at 3.48am found that the main Betong road to Layar and the road to Rh Rian Batang was inundated by two-feet deep water.

“The water level only showed signs of decreasing at 9am. The main access road could only be passed through by all vehicles around 10.40am,” the report said.

There are about 28 families residing in Rh Rian Batang.

Meanwhile, APM Betong received a call about Rh Buloh Antu’s flood situation at 7am.

The water level on the main road was recorded at two-feet deep with one four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle trapped in the water.

Only three of the 25 ‘doors’ of the longhouse were affected when ankle-deep flood water overflowed into their bathrooms, kitchens and toilets. — DayakDaily
