KUCHING, Oct 21: In the past two weeks, there have been five reported cases of rabies around Kuching city.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng disclosed that among these cases, three involved pet dogs and were reported in the areas of Jalan Semaba, Sungai Apong, and Foochow Road.
“Additionally, two cases of dog bites involving stray dogs occurred in Taman Indah in Landeh and Bintawa. All these dogs have tested positive for rabies,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk online session today.
Wee emphasised that the Council has coordinated with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sarawak to organise another anti-rabies vaccination campaign scheduled for Nov 11.
“The venue will be determined at a later date with consideration for drive-through services for the convenience of the public.
“As usual, micro-chipping and licensing registration services will be provided simultaneously,” he explained.
Wee once again urged the community to remain vigilant, as rabies is still a concerning issue in the community.
He emphasised the importance of not taking precautionary measures lightly and stressed that various other initiatives will be continually implemented to combat rabies in Kuching and the wider Sarawak region. — DayakDaily
