SIBU, Feb 14: Sibu will see five new link roads which will create further development for the riverine town.

In disclosing this, Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Michael Tiang said these five road projects are spread across Sibu, and will benefit Lanang, Pelawan, Bukit Assek, Jalan Aman and Nangka areas.

Based on memory, Tiang who is also Pelawan assemblyman said the new road for Jalan Aman will link Hanns Residence to Jalan Oya while the new road in Nangka will link Kampung Jeliah to Pasai Siong.

“Just for the road in my area Pelawan, it is about 7.8km and will cost at least RM1 billion.

“In a way, these new roads will open up Sibu,” Tiang told the media when met at his Chinese New Year open house today.

In terms of projected dates of completion for these roads, he said it would take at least two years due to the necessary processes such as surveys and land acquisitions.

He said Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had approved these five road projects which will be included in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). — DayakDaily
