Five men fined RM1,000 each for fight at Sibu entertainment centre

SIBU, March 14: The Magistrates Court here today fined five men RM1,000 in default of two months’ jail each for causing affray in a public place.

The five accused Wong Hai Uong, 56; Yong Yew Tiing, 43; Chrispian Idi, 40; Ling Hang Chai, 53; and Ling Kai Ning, 29 pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 160 of the Penal Code.


This section provides for a prison sentence of up to six months or a fine of not more than RM1,000 or both if convicted.

The accused were charged with fighting at an entertainment centre in Jalan Langsat on March 9, at about 12.30 midnight.

Based on the facts of the case, the female complainant and her family members were at the entertainment centre, when two men approached and hit her on the right shoulder.

An attacker known as Awei also hit the complainant’s son on the head with a hard object, while the complainant’s husband was struck on his left hand.

As a result of the injuries sustained, the complainant’s husband and son were taken to a private medical centre for treatment, before the complainant made a police report for further action.

The incident was recorded by the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system of the entertainment centre. — DayakDaily
