MIRI, Aug 13: Five cars were caught in a fire that tore through a garage along Jalan Padang Kerbau here this afternoon, with three vehicles completely destroyed.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the blaze broke out at about 2.44pm and engulfed a 22ft by 30ft garage.
Of the five vehicles affected, three were completely destroyed, while one sustained about 80 per cent damage and another was damaged by around 15 per cent.
No casualties were reported.
Firefighters from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by personnel from Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue Station, arrived at the scene at 2.52pm and launched an offensive firefighting operation.
They deployed a 200ft hose line, one nozzle and two hose-reel lines, using water from the fire engine’s tank to bring the blaze under control by 3.16pm.
A total of 13 firefighters were involved in the operation, led by PBK I Rorudi Ubas.
The operation ended at 4.20pm after firefighters confirmed the fire had been completely extinguished and the area was safe. — DayakDaily
