MIRI, June 26: Miri’s first drive-through swab testing facility for Covid-19 at Miri Indoor Stadium will begin operations this coming Monday (June 28), with priority given to people with disabilities including the elderly, pregnant mothers and children.
The RM45,000 project which involves various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) under the ‘Kita Jaga Miri’ initiative took seven days to complete with the installation of two unit of containers equipped with testing facility.
The drive-through swab test facility will be accessible by appointment only, and no walk-ins are allowed at the moment.
The test results will be ready within 48 hours or 72 hours.
Test results for those negative for Covid-19 will be delivered via SMS, while those who test positive for the virus will receive a phone call.
On Saturday (June 26), Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting accompanied by Miri Mayor Adam Yii, witnessing the handing over of the completed project by the NGOs to Tudan Clinic officer-in-charge Dr Maurice Steve Utap whom representing Ministry of Health (MOH).
These NGOs, led by organising person Peter Loo, is comprised of committee members from the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (SHEDA) Miri, Advocates Association Sarawak Miri Branch, Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations Youth and Rotary Club Of Miri Oil Town.
The drive-through is located within the Miri Indoor Stadium compound, at its main entrance.
Once fully operational, the drive-through swab testing facility will be able to perform 100 tests per day.
“Perhaps, when the number of people who come to the Miri Indoor Stadium for Covid-19 swab test is reduced, we could convert it (the Indoor Stadium) into a mass scale vaccination centre,” he opined. — DayakDaily
