SIBU, Feb 21: A two-storey shophouse accomodating three businesses along Jalan Lebuh Tinggi suffered extensive damage, estimated at 70 per cent, after a fire outbreak last night (Feb 20).
Responding promptly to the emergency call at 8.13pm, a team of firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department Sibu and Sungai Merah stations were swiftly despatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the firefighters immediately commenced efforts to extinguish the flames, utilising two sets of three nozzle hoses connected to a nearby fire hydrant as their water source.
Subsequently, employing a long ladder, the team ascended to the second floor to put out the fire there.
The fire was brought under control by 9.35pm, with complete extinguishment achieved by 11.20pm.
According to the Civil Defence Force (APM) team present at the scene, the blaze impacted three businesses within the shoplot involving a food store, a shoe shop and a hair salon.
Firefighters conducted thorough checks to ensure there were no remaining sources of ignition before concluding their operation.
No casualties were reported in connection with the incident. — DayakDaily
