KUCHING, Feb 25: A fire broke out today at an abandoned factory (Forest Wood Timber) on Jalan Lidong in Tanjung Manis.
According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Control Centre, the incident involved 60 per cent of the factory building.
The fire also destroyed a compressor machine, a storage room, a main switchboard room, and a few sections of the factory wall.
“The Tanjung Manis Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 1pm before despatching personnel to the scene to carry out extinguishing operations.
“Upon reaching the scene, the firefighters extinguished the fire by utilising a pump connected to an available water source, a pond.
“Once the fire was put out and contained, the team worked diligently to clean up until all traces of the fire were gone,” read the statement.
The firefighters conducted a follow-up inspection to secure the safety of the location before concluding the operation.
