KUCHING, May 31: A storage room on the upper floor of a hardware shop at 3rd Mile, Jalan Penrissen was damaged in a fire last night (May 30).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Batu Lintang responded to the emergency at 8.13pm, with assistance from the Padungan station.
Upon arrival, firefighters conducted an assessment and swiftly launched an operation based on the RECEO concept (Rescue, Exposure, Confine, Extinguish, Overhaul). The flames were brought under control using an offensive attack and a fire break from the rear of the building.
No rescue operation was required as the premises were unoccupied at the time of the incident.
It is estimated that about 40 per cent of the shop was damaged in the blaze.
The operation concluded at 11.39pm after firefighters confirmed there were no remaining sources of ignition and that the site was safe.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.— DayakDaily
