KUCHING, May 31: Kuching City FC chairman Dato Fazruddin Abdul Rahman has been described as a potential figure capable of restoring Sarawak football to its former glory—should he be appointed as the next president of the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS).
Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, while careful not to endorse any candidate outright, acknowledged Fazruddin’s longstanding involvement and positive impact on local football.
“Fazruddin has been with football for quite a while, especially with Kuching City FC, and he’s played a big role in building it to what it is today.
“I think there’s no better person,” he said during a doorstep interview after launching the Satok Youth Xtive Carnival 2025 at the Satok Sports Complex last night (May 30).
However, Abdul Karim was quick to clarify that his remarks should not be seen as campaigning, stressing that the selection of FAS president should follow the association’s democratic process.
“Fazruddin clearly has a deep passion for football. Otherwise, Kuching City FC would not be where it is today.
“If he is interested, God willing, I believe Sarawak football might rise again to its old glory days,” he commented.
Abdul Karim added that his ministry will give full support to whoever is elected as the next FAS president.
The FAS is scheduled to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 14, with the spotlight on the appointment of a new president for the 2025–2027 term.
