KUCHING, May 29: The recent resignations of two key Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leaders from the Federal Cabinet may signal deeper issues within the party and serve as a cautionary tale for Sarawak to remain politically united, political analyst Dato Peter Minos opined.

Minos was referring to the departures of Minister of Economy Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who announced they would step down from their Cabinet positions following their defeats in the recent PKR party polls.

In a statement today, Minos believed that with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar, stepping in as the new PKR deputy president, there could be perceptions of nepotism in the party, which would likely be frowned upon by voters and fellow party members.

“If the followers, especially MPs, of the two Ministers, leave PKR, it will create cracks in the party. And the cracks over time may get bigger and bigger, and where it will all end, is anyone’s guess,” he warned.

Minos noted that Anwar has dedicated much of his time, effort, and personal resources to building PKR from the ground up.

“The Prime Minister had spent his time, effort, and even his own resources to build PKR from scratch to what it is today. He, in fact, had (spend) his life creating and sustaining PKR. What a pity that one misstep will see a possible demise of PKR,” he added.

He further pointed out that should PKR lose its grip on power because of a misstep of its leader, what a loss it would be to Peninsular Malaysia.

In light of these developments, Minos urged Sarawakians to view the situation as a timely lesson on the importance of maintaining political unity, as political fragmentation could pose risks to Sarawak’s economic growth and overall stability.

“United, we are respected, obeyed, and in control of our future and destiny. Disunited, we will stand to lose all the way,” he added. – DayakDaily
