KUCHING, June 14: Kuching City FC chairman Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman has officially taken the helm of the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) after winning the presidency unopposed for the 2025–2027 term.

His uncontested victory ends weeks of speculation over who would succeed as FAS President, following the last-minute withdrawal of his challenger, Dr Mohd Syafiq Abdullah.

According to a report by TVS, the recent FAS Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at a hotel here today, also saw the introduction of three new faces to the association’s leadership for the next two years.

Speaking at a press conference after the AGM, Fazzrudin pledged to leverage his football management experience to build a stronger and more competitive football ecosystem in Sarawak.

“We plan to introduce the Sarawak Premier Football League starting this September, adopting a home-and-away format.

“This will allow fans across different divisions of the State to enjoy matches live in their respective hometowns,” he said.

Fazzrudin also emphasised a strong commitment to grassroots development and using the league as a platform to unearth and nurture football talent across Sarawak.

The Deputy President’s post was secured by Datuk Hamzah Brahim, who also won unopposed after Abang Suhordie Abang Zaini withdrew his candidacy.

Five Vice-President posts were filled by returning incumbents Nicol Agoi, Khairuldin Qalam Daud, and Khairul Anuar Adeni, alongside newcomers Sophie Shariee and Md Haical Abdullah.

The FAS presidency was previously held by Abang Zulkarnain Abang Abdul Rahman, who also won uncontested in the 2023–2025 term but opted not to defend his position this time.

In total, 10 candidates vied for seven key positions in what has been described as one of the most significant AGMs in FAS’ recent history. — DayakDaily
