KUCHING, Aug 26: A 40-year-old father pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexually assaulting his 12-year-old daughter in 2020.
The accused, who works as a supervisor, pleaded not guilty to the charge framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017, punishable under Section 14 of the same Act, and read together with Section 16 of the same Act, which carries a jail term up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
Sessions Court Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman allowed the accused to be released on a bail of RM5,000 with two local sureties and fixed Sept 22 for further mention of the case.
He allegedly touched his daughter’s private part in an apartment unit at Jalan Matang in 2020.
Feeling scared, the victim then lodged a police report.
