KUCHING, May 3: The family of a 55-year-old man who is only known as ‘Mr Law’ from Sibu is looking for the young woman who performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him after he collapsed at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) at 11.30am on Wednesday (Apr 30).

In a Facebook post, Dr Tang Sie Hing, who is a cardiologist, said Law’s family requested that he publish the post with the hope of identifying or reaching out to the woman.

Based on the sequence of the event, Tang said that Law was complaining of chest and stomach pain for three days following a recent trip to China. Scope work done on Apr 29 in Sibu did not ease the pain, which worsened at around 2am on Apr 30.

“He decided to board a flight from Sibu to Kuching that morning, (he was) travelling alone. When he landed at KIA and exited the domestic arrival hall, he suddenly collapsed.

“A young lady behind him immediately started solo CPR on him continuously for thirty minutes. In between, the automated external defibrillator (AED) at the airport was used,” he said in the post.

Law was then transferred via ambulance to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), where a computed tomography (CT) brain scan excluded brain haemorrhage, and doctors suspected a near-fatal cardiac event.

“Upon family and friends’ request, I escorted him to Timberland Medical Centre, and a coronary angiogram showed two vessels that were blocked entirely. An ad hoc coronary angioplasty was done, and his heart has been stabilised.

“He has regained full consciousness and has suffered no neurological deficit,” said Tang.

He added that the patient, along with his family and friends, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the woman for her timely effort, as without her intervention, the outcome would have been different.
