Self-employed man, 34, suspected of going into cardiac arrest before car crash

SIBU, Jan 23: A self-employed man is suspected of going into cardiac arrest and losing control of his car before it crashed into a road divider at Jalan Pahlawan today.

The incident took place at 12.45pm.

The deceased, 34, was pronounced dead by a paramedic team from Sibu Hospital at the scene.


Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Abdul Mutalif Ja’afa said 10 firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call from a member of the public.

“Firemen found a Perodua Kelisa vehicle was involved in a self-accident at the scene. They found a male victim trapped in the driver’s seat and in a state of unconsciousness,” he said.

He added that the firefighters broke open the window of a rear door to extract the deceased from the car.

According to Abdul Mutalif, the deceased’s remains had been sent to the Sibu Hospital mortuary for further action.

Meanwhile, acting Sibu district police chief Supt Dr Collin Babat when contacted confirmed the incident.

He revealed the cause of the man’s death is still under investigation until the results of the autopsy are known.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
