KUCHING, May 3: There are 13 families in Kampung Pichin (Kpg Piching), 23 families in Kampung  Mongkos (Kpg Mongkos) and nine families in Kampung Mujat (Kpg Mujat) who have been placed under quarantine due to emergence of positive Covid-19 cases in the area.

Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, who is now in Kpg Pichin, told its villagers and other nearby villages not to panic as Serian District Health Office has put preventive measures in place to stop the virus from spreading.

“I am in Kpg Piching now. There is no cause for any alarm or panic. I am still monitoring the Covid-19 situation from my house in the village,” Riot told DayakDaily.

He said on Saturday morning, a primary school student at SK Sejijak was admitted to the hospital due to Covid-19.

Following the boy’s admission, residents of Kpg Mongkos, Kampung Tebedu Mawang, Kampung Sejijak Plaman and Kampung Bung Pedus have been advised to undergo Covid-19 screening by the Serian District Health Office.

Riot said since yesterday, the nine families of Kpg Mujat and the 23 families of Kpg Mongkos have been placed under quarantine while the 13 families of Kpg Pichin have only been asked to do so starting today.

“I would like to add that residents from Kpg Mujat should also go for screening. All residents of the above-mentioned villages should not worry but get tested. This is the way to deal with Covid-19.

“If we all go and deal with it, we can get the Covid-19 situation over and done with after two weeks. But if we don’t go but hide, we will continue to spread the disease, then it will be an unending story. Please go for screening,” said Riot.

The Serian District Health Office today has just issued a notice calling villagers from Kpg Mongkos, Kampung Tebedu Mawang, Kampung Sejijak Plaman, and Kampung Bung Pedus in Serian who are suffering from symptoms such as fever, cough, loss sense of smell and touch, and difficulty in breathing between the period April 1 to May 3 and who have yet to undergo Covid-19 screening to get tested as soon as possible.

Villagers may undergo Covid-19 screening tests at Tebakang Health Clinic on May 4 (Tuesday), May 6 (Thursday) and May 7 (Friday) from 8.30am to 10.30am or they may also go for screening at Tebedu Health Clinic on May 4 (Tuesday), May 5 (Wednesday) and May 6 (Thursday) from 8.30am to 10.30am. — DayakDaily
