KUCHING, March 1: Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot has voiced his discontent over repeated calls to the government to construct a new Immigration, Custom, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) centre in Tebedu.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS), Riot said the people of Serian and Sarawak had been waiting a long time for the new ICIQS at Malaysia’s international border entrance between Sarawak and Kalimantan, Indonesia.

“The Entikong Cross Border Post (in Indonesia) is beautiful as if it were an international airport, but on our side, it is a sorry sight. I can say it’s like a chicken coop,” he said when speaking at the Dewan Rakyat today.

He emphasised that the Tebedu ICQS is important in preparing to relocate Indonesia’s capital to Kalimantan.

He believed the situation would lead to an economic spillover effect as more Indonesians would enter Sarawak as tourists or for business purposes.

“However, as long as it (IQCS) does not become a reality, I will continue to raise this matter,” he added. — DayakDaily
