Night, local markets in Serian, Siburan, Baki town to remain closed until May 17

KUCHING, May 4: The night markets, farmers’ markets and local markets in Serian, Siburan and Baki town will remain closed until May 17 as a protective measure to stem the spread of Covid-19.

Serian District Council (SDC) in a notice yesterday announced that the extension of the temporary closure order for these marketplaces comes into effect today (May 4) until 17.

The marketplaces involved are the night street market at Serian near Louise Junction, Muslim and non-Muslim night market at Serian town, local market at Siburan next to Eastern Mall, farmers’ market at Siburan which opened on Thursday and Friday, and local market at Baki Baru in Baki town.


Meanwhile, Serian Health District has yesterday advised residents of Kampung Mongkos, Kampung Tebedu Mawang, Kampung Sejijak Piaman and Kampung Bung Pedus in Serian who experience Covid-19 symptoms and have yet to go for Covid-19 health tests to do so immediately.

Villagers may visit Tebakang Health Clinic today, May 6 and May 7 from 8.30am to 10.30am or Tebedu Health Clinic today, May 5 and May 6 from 8.30am to 10.30am.

In addition, individuals and family members who have patronised Sin Yung Chong Seafood at Kedai Akok between April 5 and 18 are also advised to go for Covid-19 screening immediately.

Screening can be done at Ground Floor, New Academic Block of SJK Chung Hua Batu 35 at Tarat, Serian today from 10am to 11.30am, May 5 (8.30am to 11.30am) and May 6 (8.30am to 11.30am).

The Serian district has reported 182 local Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days, according to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily report on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak.

Serian, which is among the 24 districts in Sarawak currently under Covid-19 red zone, has six active clusters namely Semuja Immigration Depot Cluster, Chupak Cluster, Batu Gong Cluster, Tarat Tani Cluster, Duranda Emas Cluster and Rayang Cluster. — DayakDaily
