KUCHING, Aug 22: A fire at a factory along Semaba Road, Batu 5 here, was completely extinguished after firefighting operations entered its second day today.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), overhaul work continued with the help of an excavator from the premises to ensure no embers or sources of fire remained in the affected area.
Firefighters ensured the site was completely safe before concluding the operation at 3.43pm.
The fire, reported at 5.22pm on Friday (Aug 21), involved a two-storey semi-permanent structure measuring 150 by 100 feet, which also spread to a roadside house and destroyed two workers’ houses behind the factory. No injuries were reported in the incident,” said the department.
The factory was destroyed, while a house and the adjacent house each sustained approximately 30 per cent damage. A semi-detached house at the front of the premises also sustained approximately 75 per cent damage.
Firefighters from the Kota Sentosa station received the call at 5.22pm yesterday and arrived at the scene seven minutes later, before receiving assistance from the Batu Lintang, Tabuan Jaya, and Siburan stations. — DayakDaily
