Expensive cost of a friend’s betrayal

SIBU, Feb 27: A woman suffered a loss of RM48,445 after she was betrayed by a friend.

According to Acting Sibu district police chief, Supt Dr Collin Babat, the 30-year old victim who is an accountant, had on Feb 24 happened to chance upon a friend at Jalan Merdeka.


The suspect told the complainant that she was interested in buying furniture from a shop which had advertised on Facebook.

“The suspect sought for her help to pay for the furniture for her first. She did not think much of it and downloaded the shop application on her handphone,” he said.

After registering her name and paying the RM10 registration fee, the complainant was prompted to key in her banking particulars.

She filled in the details of her saving account and credit cards from three different bank.

At about 6.15pm on the same day, she received messages from the banks that funds amounting to RM48,445 had been transferred out to different accounts.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. — DayakDaily
