SIBU, March 22: Sarawak Workers’ Party (SWP) acting president Captain (R) Engga Unchat will lead the party until the next party election in December this year.

Engga in a press statement disclosed the request was made by former party president Munan Laja, to be the acting president together with acting deputy president David Munan and acting secretary-general, Lavenia Mawas.

“He asked me to lead SWP as the acting president until the party election during the Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) in December, this year,” he said.

Engga also said that Munan had informed the party’s supreme council of his decision to take a break from politics and to resign as party president, together with his membership in SWP.

According to Engga, Munan want to go back to his hometown and become a farmer.

“SWP is sad to let him go because he is very close to us, but we also respect his decision. No matter what, he is always SWP’s good friend, and all of us wish him all the best,” he added.

Last Friday (March 20), Munan tendered his resignation letter to the party’s secretary office, saying that he needed a break from politics and was giving way to others to lead the party. — DayakDaily
