KUCHING, Dec 18: N52 Dudong Independent candidate Engga Unchat has made a last-minute withdrawal from the 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12), reducing the eight-cornered fight to seven.

His decision to pull out was made known only last night at about 11pm when he posted a photo of a letter to Dudong returning officer Abdul Razak Awang Bini on social media.

“With this letter, I would like to announce that I have withdrawn my candidacy for PRN12 in N52 Dudong,” he said in his post.

The former president of Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) also said the decision was made to benefit the people in Dudong and ensure continuity of development in the constituency.

The remaining contestants include Dato Sri Tiong King Sing (Gabungan Parti Sarawak), Paul Ling Fong (Democratic Action Party), Wong Hie Ping (Parti Sarawak Bersatu), Julius Enhance (Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru), Jane Lau (Parti Bumi Kenyalang), Josephine Lau Kiew Peng (Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party) and Fadhil Mohamad Isa (Independent). — DayakDaily
