KUCHING, May 12: Sarawak’s diving ace Datu Pandelela Rinong’s achievements and discipline should be emulated by all athletes in their struggle to achieve glory.
Minister of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah highlighted this in congratulating Pandelela for after she won the eighth gold medal for Malaysia at the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi.
“I am very proud of Pandelela’s feat.
“She has been consistent in bringing glory to Malaysia as well as to Sarawak,” he told DayakDaily when contacted today.
The two-time Olympic medallist Pandelela and her partner Nur Dhabitah Sabri delivered the eighth and final gold medal in Hanoi yesterday through the Women’s 10m Synchronised Diving event.
It was reported that the duo scored 292.14 points after completing five dives to clinch the gold medal.
Nur Dhabitah also delivered the nation’s first gold in the games when she won the 1m Springboard Individual event on Sunday.
In the Men’s 3m Springboard event yesterday, Muhammad Syafiq Puteh and Gabriel Gilbert Daim secured the gold and silver medals for Malaysia.
Malaysia’s other gold medals in diving were won by Chew Yi Wei-Ooi Tze Liang in the Men’s 3m Springboard Synchronised, Tze Liang (1m Springboard), Ng Yan Yee-Ong Ker Ying (Women’s 3m Springboard Synchronised), Yan Yee (3m Springboard) and Jellson Jabillin-Hanis Nazirul Jaya Surya (Men’s 10m Springboard Synchronised). — DayakDaily
