KUCHING, Nov 13: The electricity bill discount under the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) Package in April 2020 introduced by Sarawak Government is part of a comprehensive plan to alleviate the people’s economic burden complementing the Federal government assistance.
Sarawak Ministry of Utilities and Sarawak Energy in a joint press statement today, said the discounts is extended until December 2020, to lighten the hardship of the people amidst the ongoing Covid-19 situation.
“The highest 25 percent combined discount rate will be for domestic households with 23 percent borne by the Sarawak Government,” the statement revealed.
Meanwhile, SESCO Berhad chief executive officer Lau Kim Swee said the BKSS package extension ensures to reduce the people’s burden during this extremely tough times and the discount is estimated to cost Sarawak Government some RM84 million.
“Customers eligible for these discounts ranging from 5 percent to 25 per cent under BKSS packages of the Sarawak and Federal Government will be reflected in their electricity bills,” he added.
According to the statement Sarawak Energy has deployed a dedicated task force working around the clock to normalise bills and ensure that every eligible customer from the domestic, commercial and industrial categories will receive their discounts by December at the latest.
“The November discount will be displayed in bills to be issued from Nov 16 to 30, 2020, while the discount for December will be displayed in December bills.
“For bills already issued in Oct and from Nov 1 to 15, the discount will be adjusted in December’s bills.
