Elderly man found dead in Lundu river on Day 2 of SAR ops

KUCHING, June 10: The body of an elderly man who was feared to have drowned in Sungai Kayan in Lundu was found today on the second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body of 74-year-old Awang Bosman Awang Jibi was found by the SAR team within a 1km radius from where his boat was discovered at around 12.30pm near Kampung Sileng.

His remains were handed over to the police for further action, and the operation ended at 1.10pm.

On Monday (June 9), the victim was reported to have gone down to the river near Kampung Sileng in Lundu.

He was reported missing after villagers discovered his boat still running with no one on board, raising fears that he had fallen into the river.

A police report was lodged by his family at the Lundu station, prompting the SAR operation to be launched. — DayakDaily
