Drug case: Businessman escapes gallows, fined RM11,000 instead

KUCHING, April 3: A businessman escaped the gallows after the chemist report on the drugs found on him revealed only 1.83g of 3,4 Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and 0.51g of Ketamine.

When accused Wilfred Jong, 46, from Jalan Pisang Barat, was arrested, the drugs were found in a yellow plastic bag that contained 8 sachets of ‘Nescafe’, which was suspected to contain 120g of MDMA.


When the two charges against him were amended to possession of 1.83g of MDMA and 0.51g of Ketamine in a unit of Village Grove Condominium on Feb 13 at about 11.45am, Jong pleaded guilty.

Magistrate Faelly Jeffrey Lanjungan then fined him RM8,000 in default 6 months’ jail for the first charge and RM3,000 in default 4 months’ imprisonment for the second charge.

Jong was charged under Subsection 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Subsection 12(3) of the same Act, which carries a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment not exceeding five years or both upon conviction.

DPP Muhammad Hafiz Musa and prosecuting officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
