Jobless man charged with drug possession claims trial

KUCHING, April 3: An unemployed man pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing 96g of cannabis in a room of a house in Jalan Awang Wal on March 19 this year.

Muhammad Izrol Abdillah, 30, from Jalan Awang Wal, claimed trial when he was brought to the Sessions Court here today after being remanded in police custody for 14 days.

Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan then fixed May 21 for pre-trial case management.

Muhammad Izrol, who was allegedly found in possession of the drug at 7.50pm, was charged under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act, which carries imprisonment for life or imprisonment of not less than five years and whipping of not less than 10 strokes, upon conviction.

DPP Nor Azhari Yusof prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
