Driver who hit police car before going on 11km car chase fined RM1,800

SIBU, Jan 19: A 23-year old man was fined RM1,800 by the Magistrates Court here today after he pleaded guilty to voluntarily obstructing policemen from discharging their duty.

According to the charge sheet, at about 9.15pm on Jan 13 in Jalan Lau King Howe, a team of traffic police personnel stumbled upon a suspicious car parked at the roadside.

As one of the policemen walked to the car and introduced himself, the accused, Muhammad Nur Akmal Pauzi, 23, reacted by reversing his car to escape.

However in the process, the rear of the accused’s car knocked into the right side of the police car.

In his haste to escape, the accused knocked down a traffic light pole and also hit another car.

The police gave chase and finally intercepted the accused’s car in Jalan Quarry about 11km away.

He was arrested together with his 18-year old girlfriend who was then in the passenger seat.

Pauzi in his testimony said that he panicked due to the sudden appearance of the police and tried to flee.

The accused was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in discharge of their duty. — DayakDaily
