SIBU, Jan 14: A man and a woman who knocked into a police vehicle while attempting to flee inspection were arrested on Jan 13.

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said at about 9.15pm on Jan 13, four policemen on crime prevention patrol at Jalan Lau King Howe spotted a suspicious-looking car and proceeded to inspect it.

“When the policemen identified themselves to the driver, he suddenly reversed the car and knocked the police vehicle before fleeing,” he said.

This led to the police pursuing the suspects up to Jalan Quarry, about 12km away.

Zulkipli said during their haste to escape, the car knocked down a traffic light pole and rammed into another vehicle.

The duo, a 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, were finally apprehended, and the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

The Section provides for a jail term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine. — DayakDaily
