BAU, Oct 29: A driver was killed after his Perodua Viva veered off the road and crashed into a solar lamp post at KM2 of Jalan Bau-Lundu on Tuesday night (Oct 28).
Bau District Police chief Superintendent Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the Bau Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) received a report on the fatal accident at about 7.25pm on Oct 28.
“Initial investigation found that the driver was heading from Bau town towards Kampung Stenggang when he lost control of the vehicle, skidded to the left shoulder of the road, and hit a roadside solar lamp post,” he said in a statement today.
He added that paramedics from Bau Hospital confirmed the driver’s death at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Mohd Haide urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the nearest police station.
He also reminded the public not to make any speculation regarding the case.
“In view of this incident, road users are advised to always drive carefully, especially during uncertain weather conditions. Ensure that vehicles are in good condition and drive responsibly,” he added. — DayakDaily
