Driver electrocuted, nearly dies in freak accident

MIRI, Aug 23: A lorry driver nearly died after he was electrocuted when the rear part of his vehicle touched a ‘live’ cable.

Wesley Sawan Kasau, 50, suffered second degree burns to his body.

According to Miri fire station operations commander Abg Muhammad Fhazil Abg Manaf, the incident occurred at Jalan Lambir around 5pm today. Seven firefighters were dispatched to the scene.


“Initial investigation revealed that as workers were unloading sand, the vehicle bucket at its rear suddenly touch an electrical cable, causing the tires to burn.

“The victim’s colleagues managed to remove him away from the location, while the bucket automatically lowered down,” Fhazil said.

The victim given early medical treatment in an ambulance.

The workers also extinguished the fire on all four tires.

Wesley was given early medical treatment by the firefighters before taken to Miri hospital for further treatment at 5.40pm. — DayakDaily
