KUCHING, 10 Feb: Sarawak will stick with the 14-day quarantine policy for everyone including ministers who return to the state.
Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the three-day exemption given to the minister who returns from an official oversea trip does not apply to Sarawak
“The Sarawak policy is very clear and applicable to everybody. They have to respect Sarawak Government rules and still have to comply with 14-day quarantine imposed by the Sarawak Government through Sarawak Disaster management Community (SDMC).
“This is not a new policy and there are no any changes on the policy that we use for quarantine the returnees to Sarawak,” he said in a media conference after officiating Fire Safety Campaign for Chinese New Year 2021 celebration here today.
He said Sarawak Government has spent approximately RM12 million per month to provide the quarantine facilities for every returnee to Sarawak which includes payment for hotels and other amenities.
Dr Sim was commenting on Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba who has given the order to exempt Cabinet Ministers who return from an official oversea trip from 10 days quarantine and reducing it to three days under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease (Exemption) Order 2021 gazetted on February 8, 2021.
The move, however, received an uproar from the public as it may trigger a health and safety issue regards to the Covid-19 pandemic. -DayakDaily
