KUCHING, May 10: Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has announced that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is the “designated prime minister” to which the Istana Negara has agreed to.

He said she was presently only a “designated prime minister” because she had yet to be sworn in.

*After swearing-in, then she may appoint a deputy prime minister and prime minister in the making,” said Dr Mahathir in a press conference about 2.55 am today, adding that the swearing-in ceremony would likely be done later today.

Dr Mahathir explained that because the Registrar of Societies (ROS) had yet to recognise his party Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and thus also caused problems with the opposition coalition which comprised PKR, Democratic Action Party (DAP), Bersatu and Amanah, the coalition decided to use the PKR logo as its symbol to contest in the 14th General Election.

He said earlier, PH or PKR had already achieved an unofficial majority, but due to some problems, the Election Commission did not announce the results.

As of 2.55 am, he announced that as there was already an ‘official’ majority and the Istana Negara had agreed for Wan Azizah to be the “designated prime minister”. — DayakDaily
