PH will honour promise to return Sarawak’s rights even if state under BN

KUCHING, May 10: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will honour its promise of giving back Sarawak its autonomous rights now that it has won the 14th general election.

Dr Kelvin Yii, special assistant to state Democratic Action Party (DAP) chief Chong Chieng Jen, told DayakDaily that PH would honour its promise, even though it means that this power will be released to a state government that is held by Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Yes, we will honour it. Even if it means that the power will be given to a state government that is controlled by the BN.

“This is what we have promised, and we will honour the agreement,” said Dr Yii.

Dr Yii who stood in Bandar Kuching won the seat with a majority of 35,973 votes.

PH which consists of DAP, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Amanah contested in 30 seats in GE14.

The opposition coalition managed to win 10 seats out of the 30 seats it contested. DAP which contested in nine seats won seven, while PKR which contested 21 seats won four.

State wise, state BN retained 19 out of the 31 seats it contested.

There are in total 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
