KUCHING, April 18: Parishioners attending St Gregory’s Chapel in Kg Giam received an Easter blessing of RM100,000 thanks to Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil on Sunday (April 17).

The pledge announced by Dr Jerip is meant to help complete the new chapel building, which is now under construction.

“Today (April 17), I pledge RM100,000 to complete the project (St Gregory’s Chapel) which will be given this year with the hope that it will be completed next year,” Dr Jerip, who is also the Mambong assemblyman, said at an Easter Day celebration at Kg Emperoh Giam Bauh Community Hall, Jalan Borneo Heights yesterday.

He said he was aware that the village needed a new chapel because the present one was affected by floods in 2003 and 2004.

“Not only is the present building affected by flood, but it is also too small to accommodate the growing congregation, so I will help like what I did with St McMillan’s Church on Bayur, and other churches and chapels,” he stressed.

Dr Jerip also remarked on the commitment and teamwork of the chapel’s members and committee, and expressed his hope that the good work would continue.

Dr Jerip also noted that the village has a primary school, SK St Gregory, to cater for school children from the village. — DayakDaily
