KUCHING, July 31: ‘Don’t work by fits and starts, and expect windfall profits,’ says Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing to today’s youth.

He urged elders of longhouse communities to instill the right way of earning a living in the younger generation: to be steadfast, hardworking and reliable.

“These days, young people of all races yearn for easy jobs that come with high income. It is best, for them, to sit in an air-conditioned room and work in front of a computer.

“That is why most of them venture into e-commerce, and would accidentally fall into the traps of online fraud,” he said on social media yesterday (July 30).

Tiong, who is also Dudong assemblyman, said many sectors are facing the challenge of insufficient manpower because the youth refuse to be white-collar workers.

“If not that, employees nowadays tend to apply for leave and advanced wages frequently, which is a pain in the neck for employers.

“Therefore, I call on the young people to avoid this attitude and cultivate the spirit of hardwork to avoid overdependence on foreign labour to support the local economy,” said Tiong. — DayakDaily
