Don’t dilly-dally, see doctor if unwell, Uggah advises in view of Covid-19 surge in Sarawak

SPAOH, March 5: Individuals who feel sick and are experiencing sore throat, coughing, fever or muscle and body pains are advised to get immediate medical attention at the nearest clinic or hospital.

As Sarawak is experiencing a surge in positive Covid-19 cases, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas wants everyone to take all necessary precautions, especially those in rural areas.

“If you are feeling sick with symptoms, go to your nearest clinic or hospital for a check-up. Don’t dilly-dally.

“It is not good, especially for those from rural areas or longhouses, to rest at home and sit out the pain and fever. Early detection can save lives,” he urged when officiating at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Rimbas Ulu sub-branch triennial delegate meeting held at the Rimbas Tengah hall here today.

Uggah, who is also Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, emphasised that this is critical for older folk and those with underlying health conditions.

This warning came after Sarawak recorded seven brought-in-dead (BID) cases, including a 10-year-old girl from Sibu.

“The cases or their family members were probably ignorant of the symptoms and did not seek any medical advice and treatment,” he said.

As the daily Covid-19 cases in Sarawak started to climb again, Uggah reminded the people to remain vigilant and observe the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“The virus is still with us. Maintain physical distancing when you attend any weddings or funeral gatherings. Wear face masks and observe the highest level of personal hygiene,” he said.

Commenting on the triennial delegate meetings conducted at all PBB sub-branches Statewide, he said they needed to choose the right leaders and committee members.

“Please choose those who can guide and lead you well. They should be able to articulate your problems and expectations to the higher-ups in the party. For this, they must be familiar with the situations on the ground,” he said.

Political secretary Dr Richard Rapu also joined Uggah at the function. — DayakDaily
